Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We definitely believe it, therefore try to eat something good and healthy every day. What we enjoy even more is eating breakfast in a restaurant, where someone prepares it for us. Since we like living on a budget we’re on a quest to find the best breakfast spots in Warsaw that serve good food and coffee at a sensible price.

This is the second ‘breakfast post’ in our repertoire, so be sure to theck the first one HERE. When we wrote the previous one, we thought that we’re done with the breakfast offers, that there can’t be more than six restaurants sering breakfasts this cheap. Oh how wrong we were! Spoiler: this is not the last post of this kind, there are many, many more breakfast offers scattered around Warsaw and our mission is to check them all and let you know which ones are the best.

Orzo

Monday. We start our ‘breakfast tasting week’ in a relatively new place – Orzo, a place that replaced one of Aioli restaurants that we previously described. Don’t worry, the other one is still alive and well, so you can still check out their cheap breakfasts. Orzo, just as Aioli, is one of these places where you have to stand in line outside the restaurant and wait for your turn to be sitted. Breakfast offer attracts lots of people every morning. To be honest, at this point it’s quite weird for me, since I know how many amazing restaurants serve way better, and often even cheaper breakfasts than Orzo or Aioli, yet those are the only places were people queue up. Oh well, it’s still worth checking Orzo out, but I already did that, so I prefer to eat my food right away elsewhere.

Anyways, let’s go straight to to the most important bit – the food. We tried three different things in Orzo: shakshuka, which is one of my favourite breakfast plates in general, black breakfast burger with an egg and poke bowl with salmon, inspired by the Hawaian cuisine. All of the dishes were really tasty, although the poke I chose might not have been the best choice for a cold winter morning as it is served cold. So I did enjoy mine, but still envied my friends a bit when they were stuffing their faces with warm, filling food. One more problem I stumbled upon was the dirt in my salad leaves, that must nnot have been washed before serving. But,, as I was about to find out during this week of breakfast testing, that is normal for restaurants in Warsaw. Shame nonetheless. What we did enjoy very much was the tabbouleh served as a side to the black burger. It was really delicious and we ended up fighting over the tiny jar it was served in. Delicious!

Rating: 8/10. We added extra half a point for an exceptionally good service which was never a case when Aioli existed in this place.

Dwóch takich

Tuesday. On a miserable rainy afternoon we meet up on Krakowskie Przedmieście. We all remember the cozy space in which the restaurant is located from our time at the University which is located right next to it. Then the restaurant had another name, another menu, and definitely did not have breakfast on offer. Otherwise I would eat there every morning. The interior did not change much over the years. Spiral staircase leads to a spacious room filled with old furniture and cozy armchairs. The place has a great atmosphere!

Breakfast menu consists mostly of eggs. Which is fine for me, I really like eggs, and it’s what I usually prepare myself to eatin the morning. But one of my friends in not really into eggs, so she was not happy. In the end we chose fried egg served with chorizo, another fried egg with sausages and an avocado baked with an egg inside. All of the breakfast options were ok. Nothing special, but they tasted as they were supposed to. Personally I would choose the one with sausages as a winner of this ‘breakfast tournement’. What can I say, I like my english breakfast variations.

Czyli Żurawia 45 CZŻ+

Wednesday. The day of a failure. We found out about a pizza place called CZŻ+ from our friend and author on this blog – Mięta. He got handed a leaflet while walking through the city center. I’m not sure if the offer is still alive, as the leaflet claimed it was going to work until the end of October only. Spoiler: if there’s no offer anymore, your win, the breakfast was terrible.

The restaurant itself is pretty weird. It seems as if someone with multiple personality disorder was responsible for it. The interior is pretty minimal, with white walls, some metal decorations and a few plants here and there and contemporary lightsaber-like lamps over the tables. That’s the first personality. The other one is responsible for the interactive tables with screens that allow you to make your order without ever talking to a human being. It does make sense when you’re making you’re choosing your own pizza toppings, otherwise it’s wuite pointless. Especially since inside you’ll find random photos straight from one of stock photography sites. Overall the tables remind me of my hometown – Lublin in eastern part of Poland. Only not now, but in 2007. The third perosnality is the one responsible for disgusting food prepared from really poor quality ingredients.

CZŻ+

We did come here for testing, so we had to eat whatever they served us. But let me tell you, it was bad! The restaurant menu i very ‘italian’. At least when it comes to names. We ordered foccacia. Instead we got toasted bread with cheap ham and cheese served with store-bought tomato pizza sauce. It was disgusting. The other plate was even worse. Frittata, which in the language of CZŻ+ means: flat omlette with nothing inside or on top of it. The best looking out of all three was the omlette that actually was called an omlette (what a surprise!). unfortunately the looks were deceitful. It was made out of cardboard. I can’t stress enough how much I do NOT recommend this place.

La’Bor

Thursday. We meet up in almost empty Hungarian restaurant in the city center. The interior is really nice and cozy, as it’s really quiet in the morning it might be a perfect spot for business meetings. The breakfast options on the menu are variations of classic plates with a hungarian twist. The twist is mostly about the names though. There’s an Empress Sisi, there’s a lake of Balaton, there’s even hungarian grape picker 🙂 There’s also a really good coffee, which is always what we look for. We did have to wait for our food and coffee for quite a while as there was only one guy working as a bartender, barista, waiter all in one. But it’s actually to be expected since there’s hardly anyone seating at the tables Hiring more people in this situation would make no sense.

La'Bor

Girls chose respectively a sandwich with bacon and poached egg and scrambled eggs served on a slice of bread. The second one was hailed ‘the king of bread’ as it was served with a lot of butter. Which is always received positively, especially since the price of butter in Poland continues to grow. I chose a sandwich with salmon, which is what I usually make myself at home. It was really good, I particularly liked that the salad leaves in the sandwich were served with a little bit of vinegrette, which added a lot of flavour. The one thing I would change is the bun. I’d opt for some dark bread instead of a plain white one.

Kreperia

Friday. We end our ‘breakfast week’ in one of the restaurants in Hala Koszyki famous for their pancakes. Unfortunatelly there are no breakfast pancakes. I must admit I really hoped for some pancakes. My mom used to make us pancakes for breakfast sometimes. I really like this type of breakfast but I’m way too lazy to prepare pancakes in the morning just for myself. It turned out that there’s no pancakes in the breakfast menu at all, plus there’s only one option on offer for 1 złoty. The cheap breakfast is a classic scrambled eggs. I must admit it’s not my favourite, as I uually don’t like the texture. But in Kreperia the texture is actually really nice and it overall tastes really good. I would definitely recommend checking it out, even though there’s no choice if you want to eat cheap.

Kreperia

The breakfast on offer consist of the above mentioned scrambled eggs as well as bread, butter, some unwashed leaves (the feeling of dirt in my teeth again!) and a really tasty orange marmalade. Plus of course the coffee that you need to order to have the price of food reduced. The portion doesn’t look like much but it’s actually really filling. I did not leave hungry, but I can imagine that someone who eats a lot might need two of those breakfasts 😉

And that’s it for this week. But don’t worry there’s still plenty more to come. Let us know if you’ve stumbled upon some good breakfast spots where coffee is for free or something. We’re always on a hunt for new spots to expand our list.

Here’s a map of the restaurants we check out this week:
