Another month, another breakfast post. It’s the forth edition of our hunt for the best and cheapest food that you can get on the town in the morning. We’ve already described around 20 restaurants and there’s no sign of an end. Which is good. I’m glad that more and more restaurants decide to sell cheap breakfast along with a dose of caffeine that is so crucial in the morning.

As always our goal is to visit and write about 5 restaurants where breakfast is on offer. What does it mean? It means that there’s some kind of a deal. You pay for coffee and get breakfast for free, or the other way round. The important thing is taht you get both for less than 5 euro, ideally even for less than 4 euro (after some experience with breakfast deals we set our ideal price at 16 złoty). Be sure to check out our previous breakfast posts: 1, 2, 3.

Matcha Tea House

This time we start off with a bit of a failure. Not because of the quality of food, it was actually really tasty. The portion was to our satisfaction as well. There are a few different options on the menu, one of which is the most original we managed to order yet, in any of the restaurants. I’m talking about the Asian breakfast. It was delicious and diffferent. And after all the food we tasted, innovation and creativity is what we’re after. The other option we tried was a classic – scrambled eggs with a sausage, bread and some veggies.

So what’s actually the problem? Well, the price. And miscommunication. The main goal of those posts we write is to write about those restaurants that have breakfast with coffee on offer. Matcha Tea House was supposed to be one of them, but in the end we paid way more than we anticipated. To get you up to speed: on the restaurant’s Facebook page there’s an information that if you buy any coffee with milk you’ll get breakfast meal for 5 złoty (1 euro), which means we’d accomplish our mission and eat for less that 16 złoty. Of course it wasn’t all that easy. The first problem was the milk. Maria doesn’t drink milk so we asked if it’s possible to get a black coffe instead, but pay for it as if it was with milk. The waiter nodded and… disappeared. Never to be seen again. After a while a waitress came over. We asked her the same problem. She said that ‘it would be stupid if you had to get coffee with milk, so you can get any coffee you want’. Great. We ordered, we ate, it was time to pay. Then it turned out noone actually new what the deal was supposed to be. We paid 41 złoty – full price for the meals and the coffee was free. So the other way round. In the end we failed to eat for the amount of money we were supposed to.

Deal: In the end we don’t actually know what the deal is supposed to be.

Rating: 5/10. It was tasty, but the miscommunication and the price pissed us off to be honest.

Navona

This time a positive example! Navona is a huge Italian restaurant located in Ochota district. My friend who lives nearby recommended it. The decor is not very attractive. The restaurant looks as if the time stopped and we’re still in the early 2000s. Fortunately the food is not that old 😉 Plus there’s our favourite kind of deal, meaning you pay for the coffee and get any breakfast for 1 złoty.

Navona

There are a few different options to choose from. In the end we went for an english breakfast (because we usually do) and a salmon & poached egg duo. Two of our favourite classics. Since then I’ve been to Navona quite a few times. It’s closest to my home and always empty so it’s perfect for meetings. I like the food, the staff is really nice, I can definitely recommend. Even though it’s not very adventurous.

Deal: You pay for any coffee and get breakfast for 1 złoty. What’s most important is that the offer is available on the weekends as well.

Rating: 7/10. Classic.

Labour

This one is definitely my favourite out of all five in this post. The atmospehere of the restaurant is great. I want to steal every single part of interior. The food is tasty, coffee is high quality. There’s peace and quiet. Ideal place for ‘out of home office’ kind of day. There’s even a co-working space in the back, created just for that, but I didn’t check it out this time.

Labour

The variety of breakfast meals is enormous. We spent a good few minutes trying to decide what we want to get. In the end we decided to go over our 16 złoty limit. It was definitely possible to pay less, but we felt like eating shakshuka which was a bit more expensive. The portion is huge, it is served in a hot pan and just generally delicious. The other option we went for was of course a salmon and egg duo (bored of it yet?). Here they serve it with a freshly baked, homemade bread. Incredible! We spent 1 złoty over our budget for a delicious meal and a great coffee, so not too bad in the end. We’ll definitely come back!

Rue de Paris

We came across Rue de Paris cafe on Tamka street totally by accident. We intended to eat breakfast in Mr. Pancake, nearby, but it turned out they no longer serve breakfast. We were on our way to Labour (described above) when we noticed a sign on the street. It said that there is breakfast for 16 złoty available in Rue de Paris. Our magic number! We had to go there. And we’re glad we did.

One thing to remember: not all breakfast options include coffee. All of them are written down on a blackboard. In the end we decided to go with two different types of sandwiches. One was with salmon (of course!), the other one was a vegetarian option with mozarella. Both are good, full of ingredients, fresh and huge. And they are served warm, which I really like.

Deal: All of the breakfast options cost 16,5 złoty, however not all of them include coffee. Best to ask the waitress which ones do, just to be on a safe side.

Rating: 8/10.

Hard Rock Cafe

The last place we checked out this week is Hard Rock Cafe. A classic that don’t really come to mind when you think of breakfast. To be honest, I’ve never been there before so I didn’t know what to expect. Aga was a bit prejudiced and didn’t want to go there, but in the end the location of the place won. And I’m glad we did. The portions are good, and the food is decent. All of the breakfast options cost 13 złoty and you can add coffee, tea or juice for just 3 more złoty. Which means we didn’t surpass our limit.

I went for the American breakfast, which is a spin on my favourite English. The egg was perfectly fried, and it’s not so obvious in Warsaw restaurants, as I found out during this research. It is served with bread, grilled tomato, piece of pepper, a salad, beans, two sausages and bacon. Really decent! Aga went for something lighter and chose an omlet. It was really tasty and did not resemble a cardboard (which we did encounter before). It was served with guacamole and a salad.
